Joe Ely

Joe Ely

Texas Country Rock Pioneer

Joe Ely is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose music touches on honky-tonk, Texas country, Tex-Mex, and rock and roll. He was born on February 9, 1947, in Amarillo, Texas. Ely's career began with his move to Lubbock, Texas, where he met fellow musicians Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock. Together they formed The Flatlanders in the early 1970s; however, the band had limited commercial success at the time.
