Jimmy Cobb was an esteemed American jazz drummer, renowned for his subtle and articulate style. Born on January 20, 1929, in Washington, D.C., he is perhaps best known for his work with Miles Davis, particularly on the iconic album "Kind of Blue" in 1959, which is one of the best-selling jazz records of all time. Throughout his career, Cobb played with a plethora of jazz greats including John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, and Dinah Washington. His career spanned over seven decades during which he contributed to numerous recordings and led several albums as a bandleader. Cobb's influence on the genre was significant; he was celebrated for his swinging yet understated approach to drumming that made him a cornerstone of many classic jazz recordings. He passed away on May 24, 2020, leaving behind a legacy that has inspired countless musicians.
