Il Complesso Barocco

Il Complesso Barocco

Baroque Ensemble Specializing in Early Music and Opera

Il Complesso Barocco was an Italian baroque orchestra founded in 1979 by the harpsichordist and conductor Alan Curtis, who was a significant figure in the revival of Baroque opera. The ensemble specialized in early music, particularly from the 17th and 18th centuries, and gained a reputation for their historically informed performances and recordings. They collaborated with many renowned vocal soloists to bring lesser-known operatic works to modern audiences, often focusing on the operas of Handel and other composers of the Baroque era. The ensemble's recordings have been critically acclaimed for their authenticity and musicality. After the death of Alan Curtis in 2015, Il Complesso Barocco ceased its activities, but its legacy continues through its extensive discography, which includes performances of operas such as "Ercole Su'l Termodonte," "Alcina," and "Montezuma," among others.
