Born on August 17, 1918, in Newark, New Jersey, Quebec was known for his distinctive warm tone and soulful approach to playing. He became a prominent figure in the hard bop and soul jazz movements, working with a variety of labels including Blue Note Records. Throughout his career, Quebec performed with a number of renowned artists and bands, including Cab Calloway, Benny Carter, and Coleman Hawkins.
