Horace Silver

Jazz Pianist and Composer

Horace Silver was a highly influential American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader, known for his distinctive playing style and contribution to the hard bop genre. Born on September 2, 1928, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Silver began his career in the early 1950s and quickly gained recognition for his vibrant compositions and performances. He was a co-founder of The Jazz Messengers with drummer Art Blakey, a group that served as a launching pad for many young jazz talents and helped define the sound of modern jazz.
