Georgius Zrunek

Georgius Zrunek

Slovak Classical Composer and Organist

Georgius Zrunek, also known as Juraj Zrunek, was an 18th-century Slovak composer and Franciscan friar. Born in 1736 in Skalica, which was then part of the Kingdom of Hungary, he is recognized for his contributions to the music of the Slovak people during the Baroque period. Zrunek's career was primarily centered around religious music, and he is noted for his liturgical works, including masses and hymns. His compositions often reflect the pastoral traditions of his homeland, incorporating folk elements into the sacred music genre. While he is not widely known today outside of Slovakia and specialist circles, Zrunek's work remains an important part of the country's cultural and musical heritage.
