George Coleman is a renowned American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. Born on March 8, 1935, in Memphis, Tennessee, Coleman is best known for his work during the 1950s and 1960s. He became prominent as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet in the early 1960s, contributing to the development of the hard bop style. His tenure with Davis was followed by collaborations with other jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker, and Max Roach.
