Gents Madrigaalkoor

Gents Madrigaalkoor

Belgian Male Choral Ensemble

The 'Gents Madrigaalkoor' from Belgium was founded in 1966 and consists of some forty members. The choir mainly concentrates on the a capella repertoire, from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. It tries to obtain a clear, direct and above all a soulful singing style. Since 1972 the choir has been in the 'Division of Honours' of the province East Flanders. The 'Gents Madrigaalkoor' gives about ten concerts a year, and regulary participates in international singing weeks of the European Federation of Young Choirs, in order to contribute to Flemish-European cultural interchange. Indoubtedly the 'Europa Cantat' festival in Luzern (1979) was a culminating point. Together with other choirmembers from various European countries, and under the direction of its conductor Johan Duijck, the 'Gents Madrigaalkoor' gave the Swiss premiere of 'Voices For Today by Benjamin Britten.
