Gene Moore

Gene Moore

Gospel Singer and Recording Artist

Organist, arranger, and composer from Kansas City best known for providing the soundtrack to the 1962 low budget horror film "Carnival of Souls". In his early days in pipe organ presentations in the theaters, he endeavored to create the "Orchestral Sound" on organ, applying the principles of arranging to the instrument. He and his father, who was also an accomplished organist, presented their sound to Kansas City audiences on the "Twin Pipe Organs". Gene organized combos and big dance combos to augment his staff as Musical Director of a large radio station in Kansas City and spent many years of arranging and composing for these groups. Later, he expanded his talents into the field of motion picture production work. An album under Gene Moore Trio was released in 1970 on Cavern Records (3). For the drummer with Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, see Gene Moore (2). For the brother of Thurston Moore, see Gene Moore (3).
