Gato Barbieri

Gato Barbieri

Argentinian Latin Jazz Saxophonist

Gato Barbieri was an Argentine jazz tenor saxophonist and composer who emerged as a key figure in the late 1960s, known for his rich, emotive playing style that blended elements of free jazz with Latin American music traditions. Born on November 28, 1932, in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, Barbieri gained international fame for his work in the avant-garde jazz scene and his contributions to Latin jazz. He started his career playing with Argentine musicians before moving to Europe, where he collaborated with Don Cherry and other prominent figures in the free jazz movement.
