Finnish National Composer and Opera Pioneer

Fredrik Pacius was a German-Finnish composer, often referred to as the "Father of Finnish music." Born on March 19, 1809, in Hamburg, Germany, he moved to Finland in 1835 and became a significant figure in the country's musical life. Pacius is best known for composing the music for the Finnish national anthem "Maamme" (Our Land), which he wrote in 1848. He also composed the first Finnish opera, "Kung Karls jakt" (King Charles's Hunt), which premiered in 1852.
