Freddy Fender

Freddy Fender

Tex-Mex Country Music Legend

Freddy Fender was a Mexican-American Tejano, country, and rock and roll musician, celebrated for his work as a solo artist in the 1970s. Born Baldemar Garza Huerta on June 4, 1937, in San Benito, Texas, he first gained fame with his hit "Before the Next Teardrop Falls," which topped the Billboard country and pop charts in 1975. Fender's music was characterized by his blend of genres, particularly the mix of Tejano influences with mainstream country music. His other notable singles include "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" and "Secret Love." Throughout his career, Freddy Fender won several awards and was recognized for his contributions to both country and Tejano music. He was also a member of the supergroup Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven. His distinctive voice and pioneering blend of music made him an influential figure in American music. Freddy Fender passed away on October 14, 2006, but his legacy continues through his music and the impact he had on the genres he touched.
