Freddy Cannon

50s and 60s Rock n Roll Singer

Freddy Cannon, born Frederick Anthony Picariello Jr. on December 4, 1936, is an American rock and roll singer whose career soared in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Known for his energetic performances and powerful voice, Cannon scored a series of hit singles including "Tallahassee Lassie," "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," and "Palisades Park," which was penned by Chuck Barris. His stage name, "Freddy Cannon," was a blend of his childhood nickname "Freddy" and his ability to sing with a strong, booming delivery, which was likened to a cannon.
