Frankie Avalon is an American actor, singer, and former teen idol who rose to fame in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Born on September 18, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Avalon began his career as a child performer and by the age of 12 had made appearances on national television. His musical career took off when he signed with Chancellor Records, releasing a string of hits that included "Venus," which became his signature song and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959.
