Swedish death metal pioneers

Entombed is a pioneering Swedish death metal band formed in 1987 under the name Nihilist. They are widely recognized for their significant influence on the death metal genre, particularly for their role in developing the distinctive Swedish death metal sound characterized by a buzzsaw guitar tone and a blend of punk-infused aggression with complex song structures. Entombed's debut album, "Left Hand Path," released in 1990, is considered a classic in the death metal scene and has been highly influential due to its innovative guitar work and production techniques. The band's follow-up album, "Clandestine," came out in 1991 and continued to cement their status as genre innovators. Over time, Entombed's style evolved to incorporate elements of rock 'n' roll and hardcore punk, a shift that was evident in their later works such as "DCLXVI: To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth" from 1997. Throughout their career, Entombed underwent several lineup changes and experienced periods of hiatus but remained an iconic name within the extreme metal community until they officially disbanded in 2014. Members of Entombed went on to form the band Entombed A.D., which continued to perform and record music in a similar vein until the passing of their frontman, Lars-Göran Petrov, in 2021.
