Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson

Legendary Jazz and Blues Saxophonist and Singer

Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson was a prominent American jazz and rhythm and blues saxophonist and singer. Born on December 18, 1917, in Houston, Texas, Vinson first made his mark in the music world as a member of the Cootie Williams Orchestra in the early 1940s, where he earned his nickname "Cleanhead" after an incident with a hair straightening product that caused him to lose his hair. He became known for his powerful alto saxophone playing and his distinctive, playful vocal style.
