Die Like A Dog Quartet

Die Like A Dog Quartet

Avant-Garde Jazz Ensemble

The Die Like A Dog Quartet was an avant-garde jazz group that drew inspiration from the free jazz movement. The ensemble was named in homage to the influential saxophonist Albert Ayler, who was found dead in New York's East River in 1970 and whose final album was titled "Music Is The Healing Force Of The Universe." The quartet consisted of German free jazz saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, who is known for his powerful and emotional style of play; American double bassist William Parker, who is a prominent figure in the New York City experimental music scene; Japanese trumpeter Toshinori Kondo, who brought in elements of electronic music; and German drummer Hamid Drake, recognized for his Afrocentric rhythms.
