Clyde McPhatter

Clyde McPhatter

Pioneering R&B and Soul Vocalist

Clyde McPhatter was a significant figure in the evolution of R&B and soul music. Born on November 15, 1932, in Durham, North Carolina, he rose to fame as the lead tenor of Billy Ward and his Dominoes in the early 1950s. McPhatter's high-pitched tenor voice set him apart and became influential in the development of the genre. He later formed his own group, The Drifters, which became one of the seminal doo-wop groups, producing hits like "Money Honey" and "Such A Night."
