Brigitte Fassbaender

Brigitte Fassbaender

German Operatic Mezzo-Soprano and Opera Director

Brigitte Fassbaender is a renowned German mezzo-soprano opera singer and stage director, celebrated for her rich vocal timbre and compelling stage presence. Born on July 3, 1939, in Berlin, she grew up in a musical environment; her father was the baritone Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender and her mother, the actress Sabine Peters. Fassbaender's career took off in the 1960s after she joined the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She quickly became one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her time, excelling in roles such as Octavian in Richard Strauss's "Der Rosenkavalier" and the title role in Bizet's "Carmen."
