Blind Willie McTell

Influential Early 20th-Century Blues Musician

Blind Willie McTell was a seminal American blues musician renowned for his virtuosic fingerstyle guitar playing and smooth tenor voice. Born William Samuel McTier on May 5, 1898, in Thomson, Georgia, he became blind in early childhood yet developed an extraordinary musical talent. McTell's work primarily featured the twelve-string guitar, which contributed to his distinctive sound. He recorded a wealth of material throughout the 1920s and 1930s for various record labels under different names.
