Pioneering R&B and Jazz Organist

Bill Doggett was an American jazz and rhythm and blues pianist and organist, best known for his compositions in the 1950s and 1960s. He was born on February 16, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Doggett began his career as a pianist in the early 1930s and played with the likes of Jimmy Gorham and the Ink Spots. In 1949, he formed the Bill Doggett Combo, which became famous for its instrumental rhythm and blues sound.
