Bertolt Brecht

Bertolt Brecht

Influential German Playwright and Poet

Bertolt Brecht was a German playwright and poet, whose work is most closely associated with the theatre rather than music albums. Born in 1898, he became one of the most influential figures in 20th-century theatre, with his development of the epic theatre that aimed to provoke rational self-reflection and a critical view of the action on the stage. Brecht's collaborations with composer Kurt Weill are particularly notable, leading to the creation of "The Threepenny Opera" ("Die Dreigroschenoper") which includes the famous song "Mack the Knife." The "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny" ("Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny") is another significant work by Brecht and Weill. While Brecht himself did not produce albums, as his primary medium was theatre, his plays have been adapted into various audio recordings over time. However, these adaptations would have been produced posthumously and not directly by Brecht himself.
