August Klughardt

August Klughardt

German Romantic Composer and Conductor

August Klughardt was a German composer and conductor born on November 30, 1847, in Köthen, and he died on August 3, 1902, in Roßlau. His musical career was influenced by the New German School, and he was particularly inspired by the works of Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt, which is evident in his own compositions. Klughardt held various conducting positions throughout Germany, including at the Neustrelitz court theater. He composed in a variety of genres, including symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and operas. His style combined Romantic lyricism with classical forms, and although his music was well-received during his lifetime, it did not maintain a strong presence in the concert repertoire after his death. Among his notable works are his Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 37 and the cello concerto in A minor. Klughardt's dedication to music also involved efforts to promote contemporary music of his time.
