Anthony Rolfe Johnson (1940-2010) was a distinguished English tenor renowned for his performances in opera, oratorio, and lieder. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and began his career as a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus. His clear, lyrical voice and intelligent musicianship made him a favorite in both baroque and contemporary music. Rolfe Johnson was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of roles in operas by Mozart and Britten, as well as for his work in the Evangelist parts of Bach's Passions.
