Anselmo Colzani

Anselmo Colzani

Italian Operatic Baritone

Anselmo Colzani (1918–2006) was an Italian baritone opera singer renowned for his powerful voice and dramatic intensity. He had a significant career in the world of opera, performing at many of the leading opera houses across the globe. Colzani made his professional debut in 1947 in Italy and went on to become a principal baritone at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he sang from 1960 to 1978. His repertoire included roles in operas by Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni, among others. While he was not primarily known for studio recordings or albums like "Iphigenia At Tauris," his live performances were highly regarded, and some of them have been preserved in live recordings. Colzani's contribution to opera was significant during his active years, and he left behind a legacy as one of the prominent baritones of his time.
