André I Danican Philidor

Baroque French Composer and Musician

André Danican Philidor, also known as André I or Philidor l'aîné, was a notable French composer and musician of the Baroque era, born in 1647 and passing away in 1730. He came from a family of musicians and is often recognized for his contributions to the development of French orchestral and military music. Philidor served as a member of the Grande Écurie, the prestigious band of the King's household, where he played the oboe and bassoon. His role there was significant; he was responsible for maintaining and composing music for the king's court at Versailles.
