Aleksander Michałowski

Aleksander Michałowski

Polish Classical Pianist and Composer

Aleksander Michałowski (17 May 1851 – 17 October 1938) was a Polish pianist, composer, and teacher. He is not widely known for producing albums, as his career predated the era when recorded music became commonplace. Michałowski was renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin and was considered one of the leading pianists of his time in the interpretation of this repertoire. He studied in Warsaw and later in Paris under Georges Mathias, a student of Chopin himself. Michałowski had a significant influence on the musical world both through his performances and pedagogical efforts. He taught at the Warsaw Conservatory and authored several piano transcriptions and editions of Chopin's music. His legacy includes not only his contributions to the interpretation of Chopin's works but also his influence on subsequent generations of pianists through his teaching.
