Al Andaluz Project

Al Andaluz Project

Mediterranean Fusion Ensemble

The Al Andaluz Project was a collaborative musical group that brought together artists from different cultural backgrounds, specifically from the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions of medieval Spain, known as Al-Andalus. The project aimed to celebrate the rich cultural exchange and coexistence that characterized the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages. The ensemble included members from the German medieval music group Estampie and the Spanish groups L'Ham de Foc and Aman Aman. They combined elements of traditional European medieval music with Arabic and North African influences, creating a unique fusion that reflects the historical confluence of these cultures. The Al Andaluz Project was known for their live performances, which often featured a mix of instruments typical of both Western and Eastern musical traditions, as well as vocals in various languages including Arabic, Spanish, and Ladino. Their work was well-received for its artistic quality and its message of cultural harmony.
