Aksak Maboul

Aksak Maboul

Belgian Avant-Garde Pop Band

Aksak Maboul is an avant-garde band founded in 1977 by Belgian musician Marc Hollander and with Vincent Kenis. The band is known for its experimental approach to music, blending various genres such as rock, electronic, jazz, and world music. Their debut album "Onze Danses Pour Combattre La Migraine," released in 1977, showcased their eclectic style that defied easy categorization. They followed up with the album "Un Peu De L'Âme Des Bandits" in 1980, which further cemented their reputation as innovators and included contributions from members of Henry Cow and Univers Zero, indicating the band's connection with the Rock in Opposition movement. After a long hiatus, Aksak Maboul returned to the music scene with new material and performances. Throughout their career, they have been associated with the Crammed Discs record label, also founded by Marc Hollander, which has been instrumental in promoting a wide range of experimental and world music artists.
