Agalloch

Agalloch

American Atmospheric Folk Metal Band

Agalloch was an American metal band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 1995 by frontman John Haughm. They are known for their unique blend of black metal, folk music, and post-rock. Agalloch's music is characterized by a mix of acoustic elements, atmospheric soundscapes, and harsh vocals. Throughout their career, they released five full-length albums, several EPs, singles, compilations, and a live album. Their debut album "Pale Folklore" in 1999 received critical acclaim and established the band's reputation for crafting atmospheric and emotive music. The EP "Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor" followed in 2001 and showcased the band's ability to merge dark metal with neofolk influences. "The White EP," released in 2008, further explored the band's acoustic and ambient tendencies. Agalloch was known for their thematic focus on nature, melancholy, and the Pacific Northwest. The band announced their disbandment in May 2016 after a significant contribution to the American metal scene and the development of what is often referred to as folk or atmospheric black metal.
