Affinity

Affinity

Affinity was a British jazz-rock band that formed in 1968 at the University of Sussex. The original lineup consisted of Linda Hoyle (vocals), Lynton Naiff (keyboard), Mo Foster (bass), Grant Serpell (drums), and Mike Jopp (guitar). They were known for their blend of jazz, progressive rock, and blues, which was quite innovative for the time. Affinity released their self-titled debut album in 1970, which has since become a cult classic in progressive and jazz-rock circles. Despite their initial promise and the critical acclaim they received, the band had a relatively short-lived career, disbanding in 1972. Over the years, their music has been rediscovered by new generations of listeners, and various compilations and live recordings have been released posthumously, including "Origins: The Baskervilles 1965," which features pre-Affinity recordings from an earlier incarnation of the band when they were known as The Baskervilles. In 2011, a reunion event titled "The Baskervilles Reunion: 2011" took place, celebrating the music from their early days. Despite their brief time together, Affinity's innovative approach to genre fusion has left a lasting impact on the progressive rock scene.
