Adolf Mišek

Adolf Mišek

Czech Double Bass Virtuoso and Composer

Adolf Mišek (1875–1955) was a Czech composer and double bassist known for his contributions to the repertoire for double bass. He was a prominent figure in the early 20th century, particularly noted for his three sonatas for double bass and piano, which have become staples in the double bass literature. Mišek studied at the Prague Conservatory and later in Vienna, where he was influenced by the rich musical environment of the time. As a performer, he played in various orchestras, including the Vienna Court Opera. His compositions, although not extensive, are highly regarded by double bass players for their lyrical qualities and technical demands. While Mišek's name might not be as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, his work has had a lasting impact on the development of double bass music and continues to be celebrated by bassists around the world.
