Product Information "Avocet Revisited" is a four-track EP commissioned by Earth recordings to accompany Bert Jansch's 1979 bird-themed masterpiece "Avocet". Earth invited a quartet of artists to each choose a species that particularly appealed to them and create a track based on that. "Fulmar" - The low soaring and high gliding flight of this seagull-like creature is reflected in EDWYN COLLINS and CARWYN ELLIS' song dedicated to a bird that spends most of its life in the air. Part waltz, part lullaby, "Fulmar" is beautiful in its simplicity, and Carwyn's elegant arrangements are the perfect complement to Edwyn's unmistakable intonation. "Curlew" - the opening of MODERN STUDIES - the call of the curlew itself - is as recognizable as the string-feathered frame of its namesake. It perfectly showcases the handsome orchestral arrangements that have become the group's signature style, and there's a lightness of touch that evokes Virginia Astley's "From Gardens Where We Feel Secure." "Goosander" - another Scottish resident, artist and bird. Unmistakably ALASDAIR ROBERTS, "Goosander" is both refined and somewhat wild; Alasdair's picking is complemented by sighing organ drones and spartan electric guitar. "Golden Plover" - TREMBLING BELLS' contribution has a harvest atmosphere - the last days of summer are recalled by the warm chorus and delicate orchestration found in "Golden Plover". In another lifetime, this song - imbued with the sounds of yesteryear - could very easily have made it onto the soundtrack of Wicker Man, which should tell you all you need to know. A pagan anthem reimagined for the Scarfolk era! The artwork once again comes from Country collaborator Hannah Alice (recently nominated for Art Vinyl 2016), who has given each bird a gorgeous new plumage in her unique style.
