Byla to dlouhá cesta Nizozemští a norští progresivní rockeři The Gathering vydávají v roce 2022 své první studiové album po téměř deseti letech: "Beautiful Distortion" je následovníkem alba "Afterwords" (2003), prvním novým materiálem od alba "Disclosure" (2012) a dvanáctým albem kapely.

The Gathering pro něj nahráli osm písní, které mají dohromady hrací dobu kolem 50 minut. Producentem alba je Attie Bauw (The Nits, The Scorpions), který se podílel už na albech Gathering "Home" (2006) a "How To Measure A Planet?". (1998), je "Beautiful Distortion" podle slov kapely "typickým eklektickým albem The Gathering, i když je to možná naše nejdynamičtější a nejmelodičtější album, jaké jsme kdy vydali". Charakteristický atmosférický a elektronický rockový zvuk doplňují hřejivé vokální linky Silje Wergelandové, která s kvintetem stojí za mikrofonem od roku 2009.

Zpěvačka se k albu vyjádřila takto: "Chtěli jsme, aby obal i název odrážely dobu, kterou jsme v poslední době prožívali. Jak pandemii, tak snahu být kreativní v izolaci, všechny naše každodenní boje, v osobním životě, vztazích a všem, co život přináší, i to, že se nemůžeme setkat tváří v tvář. Symbolizuje to komunikaci nebo její nedostatek, interakci, která není v rovnováze. Ale zároveň všechnu krásu, která může z tohoto narušení vzejít, jako je nová hudba, nápady a perspektivy. Byla to dlouhá cesta, ale jsme šťastní a nadšení, že brzy odhalíme to, na čem jsme v posledních letech tak usilovně pracovali."
