King Diamond began his musical career in 1973 and achieved his first success with the band Black Rose in 1979. In 1981, he joined the Brats, a group that included his later bandmates Hank Sherman and Michael Denner. They eventually formed the legendary Mercyful Fate in 1983, and he has been an important and indispensable part of the underground heavy metal scene ever since. It has become hugely successful, yet has always been embraced by the scene. When he launched his solo career in 1986 under the pseudonym King Diamond, alongside the still existing Mercyful Fate, his trademarks such as dramatic lyrics, theatricality and dazzling personality, combined with strong and melancholic music, were undeniable. King contributed new ideas and previously unheard stylistic elements to heavy metal like no one else. His penchant for horror, which he incorporated into his music, made him a pioneer at the time and brought a fresh wind to the scene. All of this led King to the pinnacle of heavy metal. KING contributed new ideas and previously unheard stylistic elements to heavy metal like no other. With his love of horror embodied in his music, he broke new ground and brought a fresh wind to the scene. All of this has brought KING to the pinnacle of heavy metal. He was a decisive influence not only on bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
