"Leftoverture" is the fourth Kansas album; originally released in 1976, Steve Walsh stepped down as producer here and Kerry Livgren came to the fore, retaining much of the classically inspired complexity of Livgren's earlier work. The album opens with the hit Carry On Wayward Son. Kenny Livgren wrote this song as a follow-up to the last track "The Pinnacle" from the previous album "Masque". Rolling Stone called "Leftoverture" Kansas' best album: it "guarantees Kansas a place right up there with Boston and Styx as one of the freshest new American bands, combining hard-hitting group instrumentation (with a dearth of ashy solos) with short, dense melodic lines and pleasing vocals."
