Product information Garlands is the debut studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released on 1 September 1982 on 4AD. The album charted in the top five of the UK Independent Albums Chart and received the support of BBC Radio 1 presenter John Peel. Garlands is the only album the band recorded with original bassist Will Heggie. Gordon Sharp of Cindytalk provided backing vocals on the tracks "Dear Heart", "Hearsay Please" and "Hazel". A dark post-punk album with a mix of ominous throbbing bass, austere TR808 drums, cyclical guitar and big screaming arcs of reverberating feedback over which Liz alternated dry, brittle delivery with full-on vocal gymnastics.
