Nonesuch Records is releasing the soundtrack to the film Boyhood. A film that Richard Linklater not only directed, but also wrote and produced. Linklater quickly gained critical attention at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Founders Award for Best Director at the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Best Director Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Boyhood was 12 years in the making and tells the story of a boy, Mason, who literally grew up on the silver screen. In keeping with the film, the soundtrack features songs from the last 12 years, from hits from the 2000s (Coldplay with "Yellow" and The Hives with "Hate to say I told you so") to 2013's "I'll Be Around" by Yo La Tengo. The soundtrack also includes the classic "Band On The Run" by Paul McCartney and Wings and the debut song "Summer Noon", written by Jeff Tweedy and arranged and recorded as a father-son duet. Richard Linklater and Randall Poster contributed to the soundtrack. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, Boyhood depicts the often uneasy journey of childhood better than any other film. From family dinners to birthdays, trips, graduations and all the moments in between, youth is portrayed timelessly. Boyhood is thus not only a nostalgic time capsule of a bygone decade, but also an ode to parenting and growing up as a child.
